Stephen James Strasburg

I remember hearing about the contract negotiations between Strasburg and the Nationals.  When I heard numbers being thrown around like $25 million, I was in shock.  I thought it was a joke.  I thought there was no way that any drafted player could be worth a signing bonus of that magnitude.  Obviously I was wrong.  Although he did face the worst hitting team in the MLB, he made them look like a high school team.  After giving up back to back hits in the 4th inning I thought he was going to get rattled, but that didnt happen because he induced a taylor made double play.  He then made the mistake of throwing Delwyn Young an offspeed pitch (91 mph isnt too “offspeed” if you ask me) and he just put the bat on the ball and hit it out.  He was now down 2-1.  He had a solid 5th inning striking out 2, but what impressed me most was his 6th and 7th innings.  In the 6th he struck out the side only throwing 11 pitches and only 2 balls.  After he got the lead back, in the bottom of the 6th inning, thanks to a towering 2-run shot by Adam Dunn, and a solo homerun by Josh Willingham, it was like he was a shark that smelled blood in the water.  He proceeded to strike out the side again, and again only throwing 2 balls.  His last 2 strike outs were both on 3 pitches and were both 99 mph fastballs that the hitters couldnt catch up with.  His final line was 7 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 14 K.  He threw 58 fastballs out of 94 pitches, thats a great mix, and his average fastball was 97.8 mph (WOW).  He has great command of 3 pitches and 2 of the 3 are EXCELLENT pitches (fastball and curve ball) while his 3rd, change up, is a good pitch.  Obviously he cant pitch like this every time out, but with the kind of stuff he has I can see him doing this MANY MANY MANY more times throughout his career.  Long live King Strasburg.
